- What kinds of work can actually be automated?
- The work that pays back is high volume, low variation, and countable: moving data between systems that do not talk to each other, sorting and routing what arrives, pulling structure out of invoices and forms, and the report someone rebuilds by hand every week. Low-volume tasks that need real judgment are the worst candidates, however irritating they are.
- Do we need AI for this, or is it just automation?
- Often it is just automation, and that is the cheaper and more reliable answer. AI earns its place where the input is messy in ways rules cannot anticipate — drafting, classifying, summarising, reading documents that arrive in twenty different layouts. Where the rules are knowable, plain integration is faster to build and far easier to trust.
- How do you know whether an automation actually worked?
- By measuring the process before touching it: how often it happens, how long it takes, and who does it. Skipping that baseline is the single most common reason automation projects stall — without it there is no way to prove the change helped, and no way to notice when it quietly stops working.
- Will this replace people on our team?
- That is not how these engagements are scoped. The mechanical part of a task — the gathering, sorting, and preparing — is automated while the decision stays with the person who owns it. Most of the time saved is in the preparation anyway, and a process where nobody is accountable for the outcome is a liability rather than an efficiency.
- What happens when an automation breaks?
- It falls back to the manual process rather than stopping the business. Everything is rolled out gradually with a way back, and documented in plain language so it survives past whoever built it. Automations are also reviewed as the business changes — one that is never maintained breaks quietly, which is worse than breaking loudly.
- Does automation work with the systems we already use?
- That is usually the point. The aim is to connect the tools a business already runs on rather than to add another dashboard nobody opens. Where an existing system is genuinely closed, that constraint is identified during discovery rather than discovered halfway through the build.
